Location:

New York 11731, United States

About:

Dickinson Avenue Elementary School students recently gave back to those in need by taking part in the Dickinson Avenue PTA’s Annual Winter Food Drive. The school donated 60 bags of nonperishable food items to the Northport Food Pantry.
The PTA has run the Winter Food Drive at the school for the past 10 years and it is one of three collections that the PTA conducts each school year.

During the course of a week, students , including student athletes lent a helping hand by donating food items for their community members in need. A flyer was sent home with suggestions of items that the Northport Food Pantry particularly needed and a shopping cart was placed by the entrance of the school for students to drop off their items.

Dickinson Avenue PTA secretary Jayne Conwell was a key organizer in making the food drive a success. “We want to show children of elementary age that they can help out” she said. “They are really excited to give back to the community.”
